Getting to know you
We start with a conversation about what you want and what you need. The aim of the design is to fulfil the client's wishes and needs and to bring new ideas into them.
Freehand sketch
Every design in the office begins with a freehand sketch. David Rahamim came to architecture from painting and art. In his words, the ability to imagine the project at this stage is essential to everything that follows.
Drawings and lighting
The sketch moves to the computer and develops into a full design. Lighting enters the design at the paper stage, as part of the architecture. Sometimes it also sets the composition of the space.
Materials and craftsmen
In some projects the interior is made by hand: a copper and brass kitchen from a workshop in Tuscany, solid wood parquet from Bergamo, furniture and curtains designed for the house. Some of the craftsmen come from Italy to work on the projects.
Built to a high standard
David Rahamim believes everything should be built to a high standard. When quality is given up, part of the design is lost. The project loses half its beauty.
Questions
What does the office design?
The office specialises in the design of private houses and commercial spaces. The work includes villas, showrooms and offices, a shopping center, an industrial building, a preservation house in Tel Aviv and spaces for beauty and cosmetics.
What style do you work in?
Most of the houses are modern, with local elements suited to the landscape and climate of Israel. The office has also designed a few grand classical houses. One of them, a neoclassical house in green countryside, was built over about seven years with artists and craftsmen working by hand.
How does a design begin?
With a freehand sketch. From there the design moves to the computer. Every project is designed anew for the client and the place.
Do you work with Italian craftsmen?
Yes. David Rahamim lived in Italy and worked there with architects. To this day he works with Italian architects, artists and craftsmen. Some of them come to Israel especially for the projects.
When is the lighting designed?
At the paper stage. Lighting is designed as part of the architecture throughout the process.
